Bikers to help RTO in safety drive

In a unique initiative, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has decided to involve citizens in its motto to spread traffic awareness. It has invited all bikers in the city to come forward and take the onus of spreading the message of traffic safety.

RTO is coming up with a special event on July 13 at Police Parade ground at Shivajinagar wherein they will start with the registration process following which they will decide about their next action plan.

“Once the registration process is over we will decide about the finer details of our campaign. The authorities tried implementing the rule of wearing helmet, but it never happened. We just want to reach out to maximum number of people and spread the message of importance of using helmets,” More said.

Pune RTO aims to spread awareness against drunken driving, vehicular movement and importance of wearing helmets. RTO officials said that only taking action will not make people aware about the importance of wearing helmets, which prompted them to take this step to spread awareness.

The bikers will be given T-shirts and banners with messages on traffic awareness. Bikers of each area will be allotted a particular day on which they would be asked to come together for a bikers’ rally.

Deputy Regional Transport officer Ajit Shinde said, “Taking action against offenders is not doing any good as the message of appropriate safety gear was not getting across to the masses. Therefore we have deiced to call bikers’ groups in the city and individuals who want to work with us in creating awareness among people.”

Varad More, 29, member of Rubber Smokin Angels Bikers Club, who has collaborated with RTO Pune on the same project said, “Two members from each bikers’ group can be a part of this initiative. Besides this, private individuals can also participate. More than 10 bikers’ group across Pune will be coming for the event.”
