Little did the members of Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Maitri Mahila Vyaspith imagine that inviting people to a cooking workshop on Ganesh festival delicacy Ukdiche Modak get such an overwhelming response.
The group had invited entries for the workshop to be held on September 1 much in advance and was flooded with requests within a few hours. The Vyashpith was glad to receive over 500 requests.
The workshop will be held from 3 to 5pm at Manohar Vadhokar Auditorium, Janaprobhodini High School at Sector 25 in Nigdi-Pradhikaran.
The group has kept a minimal entry fee of Rs 50. The participants will be taught by cooks of well-known Sarpotdar Caterers, informed Vyaspith chief Aparna Misal.“Pimpri-Chinchwad’s women usually miss such opportunities as such events take place mostly in Pune. We are receiving overwhelming response from women here. In just half a day, we got almost 500 calls asking to register their names,” she said.
Besides training women to make modaks, special training will also be imparted to housewives interested in making a business out of it by supplying modaks.
“Housewives can start a business by supplying modaks with a capital of Rs500. Modaks are becoming a popular menu and are now sold in many shops throughout the year,” Misal added.
Meanwhile, looking at the overwhelming response from women all over the city, the group has decided to organise similar events at other places in the city.
