The Baramati seat which has been the bastion of the Pawar family is now keeping them on their toes. With NCP leader Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule who is contesting from the constituency trailing everywhere with the exception of Baramati area, it looks like a close contest between Sule and BJP-Sena-RPI alliance candidate Mahadev Jankar. Party insiders who were sitting inside the counting centre were recieving calls from none other than NCP supremo Sharad Pawar at every half hour to check on the updates for his daughter's lead. NCP workers fear that if this trend continues, it will be difficult for NCP to get a stronghold in the area.
By round four of the counting, Sule in Baramati was leading with a meagre 9961 votes compared to Jankar. Jankar, in fact has a upper hand in assembly constituencies of Khadakwasla and Purandar. By the fifth round, Sule's margin had gone further down by 1500 votes.
