Pune: The medical department of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has appealed to Pune citizens to be cautious about sunstrokes, and take adequate precautions during the summer months of April, May and June.The chief medical officer of civic authority, Dr S T Pardeshi warned against working or staying out in the sun for too long, working near boilers for long periods in factories, working in rooms with high temperatures and wearing tight and uncomfortable clothes.
He added to take preventive measures such as taking breaks while working in sun, resting in shade, completing laborious work in the early hours of the day or later in the evening, avoiding to wear dark or bright coloured clothes, consuming fluids, and wearing sunglasses and caps.
For those who have suffered a sunstroke, Pardeshi has suggested remedies such as keeping the patient in an airy room to bring down the temperature of the patient, bathing the patient with cold water, keeping strips of wet cloth on his forehead, applying ice packs.”If the condition of the patient is serious, he should be taken to a nearby hospital,” he added.
Symptoms of sunstroke include fatigue, fever, dry skin, loss of appetite, giddiness, headache, increase in blood pressure, and restlessness.
