Pune: The citizens of Pune can now enjoy the cool weather thanks to the pleasantly surprising thunderstorms that hit the city on Wednesday evening decreasing the maximum temperature which was recorded to be 36 degree Celsius in the same afternoon.
Though the showers cooled down the atmosphere to a great extent, the sudden thunderstorms caused chaos on the roads. Traffic was slow at various parts of the city including Karve Road, Law College Road and Tilak Road. “The non-seasonal rains caused inconvenience to the pedestrians and the vehicle riders. The roads were flooded for quite a long time because of which the traffic remained congested.” said Apeksha Patil, who was at Tilak Road when it started raining.
While many got stuck, but only a few resented. A lot of people were happy to get wet in the rains when waiting for the traffic to get cleared. “It is good to have these unexpected showers, it feels refreshing. It was too hot in the afternoon and the sudden spell of rains brought cool evening,” said Prutha Deshmukh, who got stuck at the Law College Road traffic because of the slow moving traffic and roads flooded with rain water.
Citizens can hope for more rains in the next couple of days as the India Meteorology Department (IMD) has predicted cloud cover and rains for the next 48 hours. The IMD officials have said, “The maximum temperature is going to remain between 36 to 37 degree Celsius and there is prediction of rain showers and thunderstorms.”
