In yet another alleged goof-up, University of Pune (UoP) examination department has marked a Yashwantrao Chavan Law College third year student as absent and failed despite his being present in the examination.

Digvijay Patil on January 22 received his results from UoP that marked him absent for the ‘Labour Laws’ paper and, hence failed in the exam.

“I was shocked when I got the marksheet. I was hoping to clear the third year exams without a hitch as it then qualifies me to appear for the civil services exams of MPSC/UPSC for which I had been preparing. Now I need to get this mess sorted,” he said.

Socialist Yuvjan Sabha (SYS), a students’ union, has now written to the UoP vice-chancellor about the matter after Patil approached the union’s members.

“This isn’t an isolated case. I have been informed that many such mistakes have happened. We are also demanding the resignation of controller of examinations Sampada Joshi as she is not competitive for the job. Many goof-ups and scams are taking place in her tenure and someone more authoritative needs to be brought in,” SYS national president Abhijit Vaidya said.

Meanwhile, Joshi accepted that a mistake had occurred and the varsity would resolve it in two days.

“We checked the attendance report from CAP centre and found that the student was present. We have asked for his answer sheet and once marks are validated, he will get the revised marksheet. Though he could have erroneously being marked absent at our department level, it may not always be the varsity’s fault. Maybe he was marked absent in the report sent by the exam centre. We are trying to ascertain where the mistake took place,” she said.
