Pune: In a bizarre incident that took place late at night in Kondhwa on April 22, a street dog that was stuck in a car engine was rescued by fire fighters almost 12 hours later.
Umesh Shinde, the fire fighter who rescued the dog along with his team, said, "The dog's head must have got jammed in the engine when he tried to get out of the car."
The car owner Feroz Shaikh heard the dog's cry early next morning when he could not start his car. Shaikh was away the entire night and had only returned in the morning. He said, "When I got out and saw that a dog was stuck below my car, the only thing I could think is about how to save him."

He immediately went to the nearest car garage to get help. The mechanics were unable to rescue the dog as they did not have the suitable tools. After a while, he tried to free the animal that was in obvious pain, the car owner decided to call the fire station controller. It took them two hours to free the dog. Shinde said "We used a car lifting hydraulic jack along with a lifting bag and got him out of the engine around 2.30 pm."
The dog that was yearning for life for the whole night was saved by firemen without any injuries.
Manoj Oswal of People for Animals appreciated the quick help that the fire brigade provided. He said, "We get a number of cases where puppies and kittens are stuck in car engines, but this one is something unique."
