Rattled by the murder of alleged Indian Mujahiddin (IM) operative Quateel Siddiqui, the Yerawada jail authorities are allegedly giving special ‘treatment’ to Himayat Baig who has been arrested for his alleged involvement in German Bakery (GB) blast of February 13, 2010. Baig has been kept in the Anda Cell.

Sources said the Yerawada jail authorities are serving breakfast and lunch to Baig in his barrack and he is not allowed to enter the common passage.

A senior Yerawada jail official, who spoke to DNA on condition of anonymity, said, “After Quateel’s murder, we are serving breakfast and lunch to Baig in his barrack. He has been separated from other prisoners in the cell.”

Prisoners kept in the Anda Cell are allowed to stroll outside their cells from 9.45 am to 11.45 am every day. However, Baig is not allowed to do so, the officials said.

The jail authorities are keeping away Baig from dreaded gangster Sharad Mohol and his accomplice Alok Bhalerao.

Baig’s lawyer A Rehman said, “During the last hearing, Baig informed me that he is being served good quality food and security is tight near his cell. He said a guard serves him food and if he has to step out of his cell, a sentry accompanies him. He is happy with the arrangements.”
