It was a sigh of relief for 77 students and their parents as all of them were given admission to various colleges for Class XI. On Saturday, the state government had clarified that the 77 students, whose admissions to SP College were termed illegal by the deputy director of education, should be given admission on the basis of merit.

The process of giving admissions to the students started at Garware Collage as per the Central Admission Process (CAP) and went on till late evening.

In order to avoid any untoward incident, police force was deployed at the college campus.
However since all the candidates were allotted the colleges, barring some apprehensions of candidates and their parents, the admission process went on peacefully.

“There were 77 candidates and all of them have been accommodated in 25 different colleges where the seats were vacant,” said vice principal, Mangala Khanwalkar of Garware College.
She said that out of 77, 17 students were from Science stream, 58 from Commerce background and two were from Arts and they have been given admission in the respective colleges.

She further said that there were parents who expressed their wish that their children should be given colleges near to their residential areas. ”Out of them three candidates were allotted colleges near to their house as the candidates were female and it was difficult for them to go to the colleges, which were too far,” she said.

In the month of July, all these students had got the admission through CAP in various colleges however, these students and their parents with the help of some student organisations managed to take the admission in SP college, whose cut off percentage was high and even the then principal Dilip Sheth too promised the students that they would be given admission, however the deputy director (education) Suman Shinde referred these admission as illegal.

The student organisations and parents then started protesting and that prompted Shinde to send the proposal of SP college to allow them to take 10 per cent extra admission, however state government clarified in the reply that all the admissions should be done as per the merit.
Not a single admission was done in SP college as the cut off percentage of SP was high.
