The state action committee of milk producers and Pune Zilla Sahakari Dudh Utpadak Sangh Ltd got together on Saturday to discuss milk rates in the state as well as to discuss a possible way to control adulteration.
Katraj dairy managing director Vivek Kshirsagar told dna, “Each and every brand provides different commission or incentives to different retailers. If someone is selling product lesser than its value that means there is definitely an issue behind it. The milk sector is largely ruled by adulteration.” They are keen on having a regulatory body that decides milk prices and also creates a common branding.
“This is a serious issue which needs to be addressed before big brands like Amul and Mother Diary eat up our local market.”
Balasaheb Kondibhau Khilari chairman, Katraj Dairy said, “Of late we have come across many brands that sell at lower prices affecting the quality of milk. The retailers and middlemen are adulterating milk for their benefits. So from September 16, the state action committee and FDA will help us keep a check on retailers regarding the quality of milk once a month.”
Additional commissioner FDA, Shashikant Kekare stated, “We will definitely help the cause once approached. We are ready to give in all our support for this initiative.”
This initiative will be supported by the state action committee of milk producers. “They will decide what is to be done with the guilty irrespective of the brand.”
