Soon the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) will be at your fingertips as the RTO is planning to use high technology to send information. They will be sending SMSes to all the applicants who are applying for driving licences, permit renewals, outstation vehicles and new vehicles’ registrations.
Applicants’ mobile number will be saved in the RTO database which will be connected to a central server and with the help of the server RTO will send out SMSes to the applicants.
After implementing the service at Pimpri Chinchwad RTO in October last year, Jitendra Singh the regional transport officer (RTO), is now planning to implement the same at Pune RTO.
Speaking about the service, Patil said, “A person applying for a driving licence will get an SMS regarding submission of documents and when the licence will be dispatched, the bar code number of the speed post will be provided to the applicant.” After that, the details of the new vehicle’s registration -- chassis number and engine number -- will be sent via SMS to the vehicle owner. This will be a boon for the citizens as regular updates will help to save their time.” Over 500 applications for learners licences come daily. On passing driving test, licence is dispatched to his address within 10 days.
“We are working on a software by which application status can be asked by sending SMS,” Patil added.
