Social media rumors about Malaysian Airlines flight MH370 tragedy add to Shirsaths’ agony

Pune: The family members of Kranti Shirsath are disturbed due to the images related to the Malaysian airlines plane mishap being shared on social media forums. With many such images and rumours making rounds, family members said that each message raise their hopes and they get busy in contacting the embassy only to be disappointed each time. Even as they are yet to receive any news about the whereabouts of Pune-resident Kranti Shirsath, who is among the 239 passengers on board a flight of Malaysian Airlines on Saturday.

The family has finally applied for visas to send two family members to Malaysia as they believe they could get more information there. The scenario at Shirsath house where all the ladies in family are chanting god’s name and male members in the family are constantly calling Malaysia or watching news to get more information. Kranti who was a chemistry lecturer in Pune had recently resigned from her job and was staying with her two children in Bhugoan. Kranti’s husband Pralhad who works in a Malaysia NGO had plans to return to India. Satish Shirsath, brother of Pralhad said, “We are disturbed by the way some of WhatsApp messages and social media messages and pictures are being circulated. Some are claiming that the plane has been hijacked. As soon as we come to know about such things, we contact the embassy, which says these are rumours. Since morning, we have made some 15-20 calls, but they are approachable and have decent talks. “To overcome the trouble, we are sending two of our relatives to Malaysia so that we can gain information and help the agencies search them. Both the passports have been sent to the embassy for clearance. Kranti’s husband Pralhad has cancelled his flights to come back to India. He is disturbed and in shock. He is cursing himself. He has reached Beijing last night and claiming that he will only come back with his wife.”

Kranti’s son Rahul is in class XI and his examination is going on. He is not able to focus on his studies, but still he went to write his papers, he added. Speaking to dna, Rahul said, “I still remember my mother last communication which had updated to me that she had sat in the flight and had sent her luagge directly to Beijing. We are trying to call her number but in vain its not reachable. We have kept our fingers cross and hoping that she will returned home safe. My father is contacting us to gain details from us about the updates. My father will reach Kuala Lumpar and will fly back to Mumbai by Tuesday or Wednesday.”
