PUNE: The standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation approved the proposal of Rs 3 crore for the beautification of Tanaji Malusare memorial on Sinhgad fort, however some corporators have raised objection to the standing committee's decision as they claimed that the municipal corporation has not taken any approval from the state government and archaeological department as a result of which now this amount is locked till further decision.
The standing committee of PMC on Tuesday took a decision of diverting the funds from other allocations and approved Rs 3 crore for the beatification of the memorial. Standing committee chairman Bapu Karne said, " the allocation has been made for the beautification around the Tanaji Malusare memorial where one mural also will be installed."
However, some elected members of PMC are opposing the decision of the standing committee stating that the committee rushed to early to take the decision. The members said that the Sinhgad fort falls outside the limit of PMC limit and therefore the proposal will have to be kept before the General body of PMC. Apart from that since the project also involved state government, it will require nod from the archaeological department as well as the state government and till the time they give green signal for the project, the money can not be utilized for any other developmental work of PMC.
