After Mumbai, Shiv Sena will be launching an agitation against displaying undergarments on mannequins in Pune from June 7.

Announcing a deadline to stop this public display, Sena spokesperson Neelam Gorhe said that the party would soon start action on streets after June 7, if their demands are not adhered to.

Addressing a press conference, Gorhe said, “A meeting was held with all women corporators from both the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC). Displaying undergarments on mannequins outside the shop is like treating women indecently.” She added, “Sena corporators will be meeting the commissioners from both the civic bodies demanding against such a display. The party will also raise the issue during the general body meetings of both the municipal corporations.”

Chain-snatching cases
Gorhe added that from June 7, the party will be launching a monthly training camp for women corporators for six months.   “The party has chalked a programme of lectures by experts on 15 selected topics for the training. The women corporators will also work with the police department by gathering detailed information on the growing incidents of chain snatching so that a concrete action plan can be undertaken in atleast 60 wards,” she said.

City’s development
Gorhe criticised the Nationalist Congree Party (NCP) and Congress for differences of opinion on city’s developmental issues.

“Right from public transport, the fight between Congress and NCP has been affecting the development of the city. Sena is hopeful that a decision of larger public interest will be taken by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on the issue of the race course land,” she said.

Betting controversy
Commenting on the news reports of the use of two girls from Kazakhstan during match fixing and betting controversy, Gorhe demanded that if the reports are true, sections related to human trafficking also should be imposed in the case. “Detailed inquiry on whether these girls have been brought to India by cheating should also be undertaken,” she said.
