Pune: Calling the workshops at a green boot camp held in USA's San Diego, California area a 'role reversal' for her, Seema Sharma, a city-based science teacher shared her experience of being the only Indian to be selected tat the prestigious camp.
The five day workshop was designed to share practices for teaching energy, sustainability and environmental concepts to middle school students. All the teachers were divided into groups and had to research and make sustainable products like windmills, wind turbines etc.

Around 450 applicants had applied for this workshop and 70 teachers from 12 countries were selected to participate. These 12 countries included other Asian countries of China and Malaysia
A science school teacher at Vidya Valley School, Sharma said, "We got learning and leadership insights from energy experts representing organisations such as Chicago Botanical Garden, the Solar Rain Bottled Water Company among others. We also built wind turbines, rain barrels and a solar car which I will help my students to make them".

She emphasised on the need to sensitise students about the environment and sustainability and heads the eco-club of the school. A firm believer in "Knowledge should be shared," she conducted a workshop for her colleagues in school on recycling waste products.
Speaking about the Green Boot Camp, Paul Orzeske, president of Honeywell Building Solutions that organised the camp spoke about importance to teach school students about issues of sustainability and conservation.This camp was made successful by grant from Honeywell Hometown Solutions, whose corporate citizenship initiative. Till now 280 teachers including four from India have benefited from this project since its inception.
