PUNE: It was an embarrassing moment for Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) when PMC officials and some elected members of PMC had gathered at main building to celebrate Shiv Jayanti but realised that instead of Shivaji's photograph, the organisers had installed a photograph of Shivaji's son Sambhaji in the pandal.
After the embarrassment, mayor of Pune Chanchala Kodre had to publically apologise for such a mistake committed by the organisers.
On the day of Shiv Jayanti, Organising committee of PMC had organised a program outside PMC's main building where a pandal was erected in which a flex board was installed. The flex was supposed to contain a photograph of Shivaji Maharaj, however, the organiser by mistake used the photo of a statue of Sambhaji Maharaj which is installed near Deccan Gymkhana. When some of the elected members arrived for the function, they realised the mistake and they pointed out the mistake to the administration. The flex board with Sambhaji Maharaj photo contained names of PMC mayor Chanchala Kodre, deputy mayor Bandu Gaikwad, PMC commissioner Vikas Deshmukh. The civic administration first tried to cover up the issue claiming that it was a photograph of Shivaji Maharaj only. However, as the crowd at the pandal kept on arguing with the civic administration after which the administration accepted the mistake and changed the photograph with Shivaji Maharaj's photo.
When Kodre was asked about the mistake, she accepted the mistake and said, " It is the mistake of the ograniser as he did not even show us the sample of the flex and he directly installed it in the pandal. I have ordered an inquiry and on behalf of PMC, I apologized."
