Pune: A 32-year-old salesman working at the counter of famous gold-diamond jewellery at The O hotel allegedly robbed jewels worth Rs60.18 lakh in the span of two months.

The incident came to light, when Vinod Rajput (30), a resident of Marunje lodged a complaint against the salesman Mobin Khan (32), a resident of Ganjpeth with Koregoan police station. Khan is on run. The incident took place from April 1 till June 13 at the store counter.
Inspector (Crime) Rajendra Mulik of Koregaon Park police station said, “Khan was working as a salesman in Amrapali shop situated at The O hotel in Koregoan Park for last five years. Fearing that he will be removed from the job and with concern for his future he started stealing gold-silver diamond jewellery kept at the counter. This revelation came during the audit of ornaments carried by the complainant who is an accountant.”
He added, “To verify the information, complainant contacted Khan but the number was switched off. He checked the CCTV footage and found that he was hiding the ornaments in his socks and footwear. Most of the stolen ornaments are gold earrings, rings, pendants and a precious necklace. Khan is absconding. We had interacted with some of his colleagues working at the hotel who claim that Khan feared losing his job as the counter was going to shift and was concerned about his future work opportunities. There are chances that he committed the offence due to this reason. The picture will be clear once we arrest him.”
