Another freak accident near Urse toll plaza on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway left ten people seriously injured on Sunday. The victims include a doctor and a security staff of the expressway. They were providing emergency help to the people involved in an earlier accident when another vehicle hit them. The incident took place near Urse toll plaza in lane number 5.
Three days ago, four people were killed at the same toll plaza when their car was hit by a speeding truck.
On Sunday, at 4.30pm a speeding Indica car dashed into a Maruti Swift. Following the accident, an ambulance reached the spot and while the doctor, driver of the ambulance and security guards were trying to take out the injured patients, another speeding Indica car hit the doctor, driver and security guards. A little while after this, yet another car crashed into it.While ten out of the eight injured in the accident were rushed to Lokmanya Tilak Hospital at Nigdi, the other two were rushed to Pawan Hospital at Somatane Phata.Dr Anil Nirmale (24), a resident of Pimpri sustained fractures in his left forearm and deep head injury. Sandeep Yadav (27) a resident of Pimpri, driver of the ambulance got fracture in his left leg, two security guards Shankar Ghare (34), got head injury and Santosh Ghare (32) got injuries in his knees and forearm. Both the security guards hail from Urse.Amit Naik (36) who was driving the Indica car got injuries on his chest and his wife Megha Naik (30) got head injuries. They are residents of Sanghvi. One of the other two traveling in the car were Veena Bangodi (23), who got head injuries. Heer left ear was also bleeding. Second was her husband Milind Bangodi (32) whose hip was dislocated. He also injuries in his spinal cord. The couple hails from Pimple Gurav. Dr Jaywant Shrikande, administration head of emergency accident team of Lokmanya Tilak Hospital said, “Our doctors reached the spot within 10 minutes of the information. While they were trying to take out the injured patients they were hit by a car which was traveling towards Pune. The condition of all the eight patients is stable now. We are keeping them under observation for the next 24 hours.”Tried calling the Pawna hospital however there was no response.
