Road mishap kills traffic cop in seized vehicle

A constable lost his life while driving a seized autorikshaw , which was parked in a no-parking zone

A major accident took place near the Pimpri Chinchwad commissioner's bungalow when a traffic constable attached to Pimpri was personally driving the autorikshaw that had been parked illegally. Another car coming from opposite direction the autorikshaw. The impact was such that the constable died on the spot.

The deceased has been identified as police constable Pravin Sonavane (32), resident of Wakad Police Station. Mahendra Rokade. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic) said, "The incident took place at KBC chowk in Pimpri around 11.30 am. Sonavane had found an autorikshaw violating the traffic norm. He restrained him and was filing the challen for penalty. The autorikshaw refuse to pay due to which he himself was driving the autorikshaw when a car coming from opposite direction hit the autorikshaw which lost control, turtled and Sonavane was unconscious and bleeding"

He added, "The eye witnesses and other police constables rushed him to hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. While the police arrested the car driver, Sundar Rokade, the auto rickshaw driver was out of sight after the accident and the police are in his search."

Sonawane had joined the police four years back following his father who demised when in the force and his elder brother who filled in his father's position. He joined in the Traffic Department where he worked in the Chaturshrungi Aundh Traffic Department and got transferred to the Pimpri Traffic Division six months back.
