Eye on ticket rate, drug sale and foreign performers

New Year party organisers, beware! Your social media marketing is under the scrutiny of the Pune police and state excise department, who are keeping a close check on websites and social media to know which parties are being organised in Pune.

Since most party tickets are sold online and there are heavy publicity campaigns on social media, the police are closely monitoring social networking websites to cross-check if the party organisers have sought permissions and also look for ‘key words’ in invites that suggest availability of drugs at the venue.

The district entertainment tax department will also cross-check rates of tickets declared online and see if the party organisers have declared the correct rates while seeking permissions or are evading payment of entertainment tax.

Mohini Chavan, Pune district entertainment duty officer, said that at a recent meeting held with hotel owners and party organisers, not only were they asked to seek permission but also to furnish details on rates of tickets, staff strength and whether foreigners are performing at the event.

“There would be a special team to keep a check on social networking sites to cross-check rates of tickets declared to us and also if there are any unauthorised parties,” she added.

Pune joint commissioner of police (law & order) Sanjeevkumar Singhal said, “Besides the city police, we have decided to have extra force from the State Reserve Police Force on the streets. We will be checking lodges. There would be anti-chain-snatching and goonda squads moving about in the city in crowded areas and these will be in plain clothes. Quick response teams will be deployed at strategic points.”

Chavan said the entertainment department plans to send decoy customers to keep check the ticket sales and see if norms are being followed at parties. Special tabs will be kept on parties featuring foreign DJs as last year, many such parties were busted where no special permission was sought for foreigners to perform

No underage drinking
Superintendent of state excise, Pune division, AB Chaskar said there would be strict vigilance to check the age of persons being served drinks.
