Thursday, 10 July 2014 - 8:12am IST | Place: Pune | Agency: dna

Pune: There’s good news for the residents of Handewadi, Undri, Mohammadwadi as they will get a new Kalepadal police station tentatively stated for an August 15 inauguration. This area came under Hadapsar police earlier and had become the target for recent riots in Pune. Due to past offences taking place in the area and the inability of the police to control it, and because of the increase in population and increasing disturbances, a new police station will be formed as Kalepadal police station and most of the area of Hadapsar police station jurisdiction will come under it.This will be the 34th police station in the city. This decision was taken due to the increase in population in Kalepadal, Mohammadwadi and Handewadi areas. These areas were badly affected by communal riots following objectionable facebook posts.

The Jurisdiction of the Kondhwa, Wanowrie and Hadapsar police stations are now divided to include Kalepadal. On this occasion the Deputy commisioner of police Manoj Patil said they had proposed this idea for a new police station two years back.Sensitive areas of Sayednagar, Handewadi road and Kondhwa will be monitored by this station. Permissions have been given to put up new Police stations at Sinhgad road, Kadakwasla, Alanka, Chandan Nagar and Wakad. There might be 40 new police stations in total for this city and additional police force will be appointed for these stations.
