For many people winning medals at the different levels could be aim in life but for this NVM pass out, Rohan More, it is passion that carries forward his mission in sports.

A software engineer with Cognizant in Dubai, it has been his mothers inspiration which made him take this step, and swam the English Channel, a distance of 35kms in 13 hours and 13 minutes on July 26. In the process he became the only second swimmer this year to overcome this feat, after Mersy Mcdonalds from USA. More's first test was when he swam Dharmtar To Gateway of India in 1996.

It has been a lone battle, More has been winning. An outstanding student in academics, He completed BCS from Fergusson College, bachelor from CoEP Pune & learned the Japanese language and all in one go. He completed all of the above in one year.

"I love challenges, and that has made me different," said More while talking to dna from London. Soon thereafter, he joined Cognizant as a software engineer. It was here he thought that he can pursue his mission. It was a blessing in disguise when he was posted in Dubai with Cognizant. He saved money with his earnings for over a year and went ahead with his dream.

"I was told that I had to change the venue if I should give a go at the English Channel, as the temperature here in Dubai was over 48 degrees while in England it was cold," he said.

More found the right person in Freda Streeter, an 85-year-old lady and her daughter Alison Streeter who swam the Channel 49 times. The duo prepared him mentally & physically for the expedition without informing his people back home in India.

It was an acid test, going through the channel, against all odds. Heavy rain, and stormy winds. And it was all over at the end of 13 hours and 13 minutes.

"My mother (Vijaya) is my inspiration, I did it for her. I still remember the days from my childhood when she used to take my practice for Dharamtar to Gateway of India Channel. My Goal is to swim many more Channels, preferably among the Ocean Seven which considered to be the most difficult open water swim in world. Just did the one six more to go," said More.
