For someone whose first encounter with music dates back to the time when he was three — reciting songs that his grandmother used to sing to him — classical and devotional singer, Pandit Sanjeev Abhyankar has certainly come a long way.
Abhyankar, who has been enthralling all his fans with beautiful renditions of classical and devotional songs, will be surprising everyone with his versatility by featuring in the ongoing season of Coke Studio@MTV (Season 3). Even Abhyankar, himself, is extremely smitten by his experience of working with music composer, Hitesh Sonik, for the song, Moh.
“The song is a fusion of western and Indian music. What I loved the most, is that Hitesh has kept the soul of the song alive. This is probably the first time, that I am singing live with a band. Even, the people who often listen to my music, won’t be expecting to see me in the show, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed myself,” says the versatile National award winning singer.
Over the years, his bond with music has just grown deeper, probably, the way a fish takes to water. “Music for me is a way of life,” he often says, when he is asked to describe what he feels about it.
Perhaps, that is why it doesn’t surprise us, when he says that he has performed in over 200 cities in the past 30 years.
“My first stage performance dates back to when I was eleven, and since then there has been no turning back. Classical music requires time-to-time improvisations and a lot of creativity and over the years, my passion for music has led me to nurture this further,” he said.
The talented musician also takes pride in having recently recorded the entire Dasbodh in his voice as a part of a project by the Maharashtra Government.
“This is perhaps one of the biggest projects that I have been associated with. It can easily be downloaded and I’m sure it will be liked and appreciated by everyone,” he said.
