Pune: In an unprecedented move, the city police chief himself hit the streets and visited riot affected areas including Hadapsar, Kothrud, Bhosari and in Pimpri Chinchwad area. He personally inspected the situation and interacted with those living there.

The city erupted in violence on Saturday night after defamatory images of Shivaji Maharaj and Shiv Sena’s chief Bal Thackeray were posted on social networking sites. Violence in parts of Hadapsar area on Monday night led to the death of a youth.
City police commissioner Satish Mathur was seen personally visiting the sensitive areas with no extra police force. Commissioner Mathur said, “The nature of the incident is very sensitive and important. My entire force was on field and I cannot be left alone sitting in the office and passing orders. This was an attempt to interact with the citizen, boost up my force’s morale. This is an effective platform to control the anger among the youth.”
He added, “I appeal to citizens, especially youngsters, to not fall prey to such misleading smses being circulated as this is a mischievous act done to provoke tension.”
Sanjay Kumar Joint Commissioner (Law and Order) said, “The city is back to normal. We have arrested more than 150 people and most of them were youths in the age of 18 to 28. Our cyber crime is investigating the case and found the images were morphed. The staff is patrolling the city in plain clothes and interacting with citizens who are roaming in groups
