In a bid to resolve the traffic woes at Sasanenagar-Handewadi railway level crossing in Hadapsar does not seems to get resolved in the coming days, despite the fact that the standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), had given the green signal for the construction of an underpass at the spot about a year ago,however the commencement of the work is yet to see the light of the day.
The indifferent attitude of PMC officials has resulted in delay of the project, which have left thousand of residents of the area in lurch, getting stuck in the traffic jams on regular basis has become a part of daily life for thousands of residents living midst the area.
Sharad Kolekar (46), working professional, resident of Ganga Village, said,"It is a nightmare to cross the railway crossing, as the road leading to the railway crossing is narrow which is results in traffic jams. There is no alternative route that I can take to avoid traffic jam."
Rajat Sharma (29), IT professional, resident of Siddhivinayak Vihar said,"With the increasing number of vehicles on the route things are getting bad to worse everyday. There is not a single day when I do not get stuck in the traffic jam, the civic body should look into the matter and make some arrangement which will be a respite for residents living in area."
Imran Ansari (36), businessmen, resident of Namovihar said,"In order to avert the traffic jam I have stopped using the route, instead I travel from NIBM so that I do not get into the hassel of getting stuck in the traffic choke up."
In the meanwhile the PMC officials is still waiting for the formalities to be completed from the railway authority after which they can start the construction of underpass. The 37 crores project is expected to take about 30 months.
When contacted head of PMC's road department, Pramod Nirbhavane said,"We are still waiting for the map from railway authorities, once we receive the map we will start the construction of the underpass. The length of the underpass will be about 300 meters."
Nirbhavane added,"The Y shaped road that leads towards Handewadi and Syed nagar is narrow as per the development place the width of the road should be 24 meters, however the current width of the road is 12 meters. In order to increase the width of the road we will have to scrap some structures that is obstructing the width of the road."
