Pune: The anti-corruption bureau (ACB) on Thursday filed two separate cases against a class one officer of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) and a class two officer and his wife for allegedly having disproportionate assets.

One case has been registered with the Dattawadi police station against Ramesh Shelar, 45, who is a chief security officer at the PMC while the other is registered with the Yerawada police station against Mustaq Shaikh, 51, who is working as deputy engineer and his wife Afroz.
A team of 12 police officers from ACB carried out search operations at Shelar’s house at Ashok Park on Suncity Road.
Shelar joined the PMC in 1995 as junior engineer and got promoted to deputy municipal commissioner. He is now a chief security officer. From the period between 1995 to December 2013 Rs 64 lakh disproportionate moveable and immovable assets were found with him. The ACB traced the assets after receiving anonymous letters since 2013. The anonymous sender of the letters had gained information through the Right To Information (RTI) Act.
Superintendent of police (ACB) Sarang Avhad said, “In the search operation we got Rs 6.55 lakh cash from Shelar’s house and found over eight flats and plots in his and his wife’s name. At present our team is scrutinising his bank accounts. Shelar owns flats in Hinge Khurd area, Warje Malwadi and Loni Kalbor. He has two shops in Phaltan and Wadgoan Bhudruk, a bungalow at Wadgoan Bhudruk and a plot in Shirur.” He added, “Apart from this, we have found his wife Sharada owns a hostel in Warje Malwadi with six rooms. He has two four wheelers and four two-wheelers. Over 43.21% disproportionate assets have been found in Shelar’s name.”
Deputy engineer Shaikh was arrested by the ACB on April 29 for accepting cash of Rs 7,000 from a construction firm. He is now out on bail. Inspector (ACB) Shailesh Sanke said, “He owns a flat and a shop in the posh Kalyaninagar area. We seized Rs 39.71 lakh illegal assets from him.”
