Pune: It did not take too long for senior officials of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to carry out a survey of the Mula Mutha river within the PMC limit, after Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray criticised civic body for the pathetic condition of the same. The PMC has ordered the concerned departments to take up cleaning work of the riverbed.
Thackeray, in his public rally in Goregaon in Mumbai, took a dig at PMC officials over the poor keep up of Mutha river, where he had held a public rally to start election campaign in Pune. It seems the officials of PMC have reacted to Thackeray’s criticism and carried out an inspection of the entire riverbed at 7 am.
One of the officials of PMC said, “Additional municipal commissioner (special) Omprakash Bakoria himself carried out the inspection of the riverbed along with officials of concerned departments. They checked the quality of the water, encroachments in the riverbed, areas where citizens pollute the river water. After the inspection, Bakoria has given orders to all the concerned officials to take necessary steps in improving the quality of the river water.”
At the time of the inspection of the riverbed, officials from encroachment department, road department, environment cell and garden department were also present. Head of the anti-encroachment department of PMC, Madhav Jagtap said, “After the inspection, we have decided to undertake a massive drive along the entire riverbed.”
