Pune: Finally, the Pune Municipal administration has taken notice of the piling of dirt and unused buckets and drums kept right in the middle of the PMC’s main building. The civic body has finally cleared all the mess. Civic administration has made it clear that the unused buckets and drums which were gathering dirt, will be donated to SWaCH NGO for garbage collection.

Dna Pune had carried a report on June 12 about how the main building of the PMC has become a breeding ground for mosquitoes as the civic body dumped unused plastic buckets and drums in the duct of the main building. Youth congress worker Rushikesh Balgude had also submitted a letter demanding the removal of the buckets.
After dna carried the report, PMC officials swung into action and cleared the mess. Shrinivas Kandul, head of the store department of PMC, said, “ When we noticed that the buckets and drums are kept in the duct, I immediately brought it to the notice of the officials of solid waste management department and they have cleared the whole area.”
“There are some unused plastic buckets and drums which we are going to donate to SWaCH NGO as they have the requirement of plastic buckets. Till the time we arrange for the additional buckets, they can use these buckets for garbage collection,” Kandul said.
Rushikesh Balgude, who had written to the civic body regarding clearing the mess, said, “In the first place, the civic body should not have kept these unused drums and buckets in the duct. After keeping the buckets there, they at least should have maintained cleanliness. Rather than waiting for someone to raise a voice on this issue, they should have acted on their own and cleared the area.”
