A 17-year-old diploma engineering student from Pune has been recognised by the Limca Book of Records for starting a social organisation at a young age.

Aakash Shah and his 60 friends had started the organisation, Action for Pune Development (APD), when he was merely 16-year-old.

Akash, then a standard X student of Symbiosis School and his friends, had taken up the initiative to improve traffic management, enhancing green cover and several other social activities in the city through APD.

The organisation was launched on May 21 last year and recently the Limca Book certificate, which mentions national records 2014, was awarded to Akash.

“The group has started many projects including distribution of 10,000 pamphlets on safe driving at the Pune-Mumbai expressway, working with disabled people at Nirmalya home, helping weaker sections with computer skills etc. The group, especially Aakash has received several awards,” the certificate mentions.

Akash said, “I am very happy that our initiatives have been appreciated. This will encourage our group to do better work.”

“I am waiting to turn 18, so that APD can be enrolled as a Non-Government Organisation, as NGOs can only be started after we reach the legal age,” he adds.
