Pune gets a platform to showcase offbeat cinema

IndiEarth Onscreen launched in Pune after Bangalore and Chennai; it will cater to aspiring film-makers bi-monthly

Budding and aspiring film-makers have something to look forward to in the city with IndiEarth’s edition of Onscreeen launched at High Spirits Cafe on Thursday. A platform specially designed to create a hub for independent artistes and media, IndiEarth Onscreen attempts to address the challenges of independent Indian musicians and film-makers. 

Helping to promote this initiative through the right channels is High Spirits Cafe, which launched the Pune edition after Bangalore and Chennai. Khodu Irani, owner High Spirits Cafe said, “We have done events in music, stand up comedy and social events. So we thought of promoting non-mainstream independent cinema. Hence, we collaborated with IndiEarth and gave them a platform for regular screenings.”

Budding film-maker Aniket Dasgupta showcased his documentary. ‘The Other Way’ on Thursday. He said, “Events like these provide exposure and better and bigger platforms for film-makers like us. I will be bringing out my other projects too owing to such screenings.”

Roy Dipankar, content, media alliances and marketing, IndiEarth.com said, “The idea is to provide a platform for film-makers whose movies did not make it to theatres for whatever reason. These are offbeat film-makers who are students, employees or those who have been in the industry awaiting a perfect break. We showcased some beautiful movies ranging from documentaries, musicals,short film, fiction to docu-fiction.”

Scheduled to be held bi-monthly, this is mainly to appreciate artistes and directors.These movies and India’s creative content need to reach worldwide media hence High Spirits was chosen as a launch destination in Pune.

“High Spirits Cafe has been synonymous to be a platform for independent artistes. Besides, Khodu has been a part of the networking of independent artistes. We met at an event in Chennai where he had come as one of the delegates for the same,” added Roy.
