Prolonged power cuts leave Puneites sweating

Pune: Thousands of residents from Balewadi, Sus road and Baner area had to experience hot and sweaty day after the power supply of these areas was failed for almost eight hours on Friday. Even the back up plan of Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) of providing power supply from other feeder system also failed which added to the misery of citizens. 
The city has been witnessing interrupted power supply in the summer and on Friday, it was the turn of residents of Balewadi, Baner and Sus gaon to face the heat. Prajakta Mali, a resident of Sus gaon said, “The electricity in the area went off at around 11 am and initially, I thought it will resume in sometime. However, even after seven to eight hours the electricity in majority of the areas was not restored.”
When contacted, an MSEDCL official said, “After the feeder system which provides power supply to Balewadi, Sus gaon had failed, we tried to provide back up power supply but that also failed.” 
Apart from these areas, Kondhwa area also witnessed interrupted power supply on Friday. While parts of the city have been facing power cuts, the city continued to witness hot weather. On Friday, Pune recorded maximum temperature of 39 degree Celsius.
