President Pranab Mukherjee said that peace, harmony, love and compassion are the essence of Indian civilisation. He added that International Society for Krishna Consciousness’ (ISKCON) new Vedic Cultural Center will help spread this essence in the Indian culture.

Mukherjee inaugurated the centre on Sunday.
Governor K Sankaranarayanan, state minister for cooperation Harshawardhan Patil, mayor Vaishali Bankar, Rajya Sabha MP Hema Malini, Swami Gopalkrishna Goswami and Radhanath Swami were also present on the occasion.

“Founder of ISKCON Swami Prabhupad galvanised the whole world in a short span of time and established over 600 temples across the world. ISKCON provides food to ten million children every day. Indian culture has always spread through love, compassion and peace, rather than conquest and deprivation,” he said.
While quoting Mahatma Gandhi, Mukherjee said that if one man gains spirituality, the whole world gains it with him.

“I have visited Pune in various capacities in the past. The city has produced leaders like Gopal Krishna Gokhale and Bal Gangadhar Tilak,” he added.
