Police verification for passport : Cops busy playing blame game

With the aim to expeditate the procedure of police verification for passport applicants, city police had adopted a new system, the new online system was suppose to save a weeks time in the process of police verification so that applicants can get the passport early.
If the records of the Pune Special Branch are to be believed then Dattawadi Police station has the highest number of pendency of 650 police verification followed by Yerawada at 550, Nigadi at 460 and Wanawadi at 400 respectively. The pendency has been at constant at the said police stations for the past sixty days due to non submission of relevant bonafide documents by the applicants.

Dattawadi and Nigadi Police Stations have seen addition of new areas after the merger of some villages which were earlier with the rural police.
Deputy Commissioner of police ( Special Branch ) Sanjay Patil said,"The issue of pendency cases will be taken up on priority basis and we will ensure that the number of pending cases drops down..
As far as Dattawadi and Nigadi Police Stations are concerned, we are awaiting data from the rural police.
Patil added,"Once we get the bonafide details of the applicants from the rural police, their applications will be processed on priority basis which will help to reduce the pendency cases."
When asked about the issue said that data has been dispatched to the respective police stations. Rural superintendent of police Manoj Lohiya, said," We have sent the records including village register records to the city police station. On the contrary, we are getting applications from the city police who are requesting us to verify the applicants.".
Dattawadi Police Station In-charge S.S. Nimbalkar said,"The delay has been due to the merger of areas of Haveli police station. We have sent a letter to Haveli Police Station seeking transfer of documents in their possession . We do not have enough manpower, still we are trying our best to dispose off the applications."
Deputy Commissioner ( Zone IV ) Manoj Patil who supervises over Yerwada and Wanawadi Police Stations said,"In order to tackle the pending application for passport we will be increasing the staff strength, which will help us to get things under control."
