On the backdrop of recent incidents of eve teasing and sexual abuse of school girls, the senior inspector Smita Jadhav has taken up the initiative of visiting schools and colleges, and she is interacting with the girls in order to understand their problems. She is also making them aware of good touch bad touch. Jadhav have recently taken up the charge of Inspector (Crime) of Dattawadi area. She earlier was posted at the city police women grievance cell.

S S Nimbalkar inspector in-charge of Dattawadi police station said, "This is a good initiative as the Dattawadi area is a middle class dominated area, but there are also slums in the area. If such eve-teasing complaints are brought to parents, they change the school or make the girl stay at home. To overcome the issue, we started this initiative. Many of the boys did not realise that it is an offence to tease a girl. Many of them are college students and do not want their careers to be destroyed. Hence we started with interacting with both boys and girls."

Jadhav said, "After taking charge of crime in the Dattawadi area, when I observed the atrocities against women, I found many cases of molestation taking place. I am also a parent and then visited some colleges, and interacted with girls in their common rooms. When I visited the common room, I noticed many bad comments written about girls and dirty pictures over it. I have informed such colleges to repaint these rooms, and keep a peon who will keep a tap on it. They have shared their problems with me, and have zeroed down on some of the eve-teasers near their college and school."

She added, "Mostly the girl students who are staying in the hostel, or on a rental bases complained that many boys stand near their buildings, especially near their windows. They either touch their own private parts or pass comments. College girls who travel in public transport claimed that the school girls face issues of manhandling and molestation. Learning from this tip-off, I pay a visit to the school, twice a week, and interact with girls about good touch and bad touch."
