The anti-dacoity squad of the Pune police arrested two persons in Hinjewadi for possessing an illegal weapon on Monday. The accused were identified as Umesh Waghulkar (36) and Santosh Vitkar (32). A country-made pistol with five live cartridges and one stolen car were recovered from them.
The team was out to investigate murder case of Dr Narendra Dabholkar when it got a tip off about Waghulkar and Vitkar’s activities. Waghulkar was sentenced to 3 years’ imprisonment and was out on bail. He was arrested in 2008 by the Hinjewadi police with 14 pistols. Both these accused have an extortion case reported against them at the Sanghvi police station.
