Police arrest two men carrying fake notes with face value of Rs45,000

The Sahakarnagar police have arrested two persons on Thursday for carrying fake currency notes with an estimated face value of Rs45,000.

Acting on a tip off that the duo would be arriving in a Mahindra Jeep from Sangamner tehsil of Ahmednagar district, a team of Sahakarnagar policemen comprising detection branch (DB) police inspector SD Patil, was on vigil. They intercepted the jeep bearing number MH 06 SC 1276 near KK Market in Balajinagar around 4.30 pm and detained the suspects. The police have recovered 45 fake notes of Rs1,000 denomination from the suspects.

The arrested have been identified as Bharat Kondaji Pawar (42) and his associate Shantaram Shivram Ubale (28), both residents of Akole tehsil in Ahmednagar district. After being interrogated, they confessed to their involvement in the circulation of fake currency in Pune and said the were on an assignment to deliver the consignment to some people involved in the their trade. The duo have been booked under IPC 489 (c) and section 34.

Patil said that the suspects had been remanded in custody and that the police suspected their involvement in circulation of fake currencies in other parts of the city too. “We are interrogating both of them and something concrete is likely to emerge in the next few days before their custody gets over,” he added.

It may be recalled that Vishrantwadi police had busted a major fake currency racket and arrests five menfrom West Bengal in Sept. The police had recovered fake notes fake notes worth a total face value of Rs 1.41 lakh, in the denominations of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000.

The arrested persons were identified as Mizharul Shaikh (28) and Tariqaziz Shaikh (22), both natives of Murshidabad district, West Bengal, Ziarul Mandol (30) of Rajapur in Kanhaipur block of Nadia district, West Bengal, Hasirul alias Razzak Mandol (19) of Baur in Panchdada block of Nadia district and Baqool Shaikh (20) of Shrinathpur in Panchdada block of West Bengal.
