In order to set a vision for public transport in the city for the next 20 years, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal (PMPML) is working on a business plan. Recently, the transport body has floated a tender for appointing an agency for preparing the plan.
The plan has been prepared on similar lines of the development plan prepared by municipal corporations. The plan has been prepared to streamline the working of the transport body with an aim to increase the revenue generation.
Pravin Ashtikar, joint managing director of PMPML, said, “We have taken the first step in this regard and last week, we floated a tender for appointment of an agency to prepare the business plan.”
The transport body has also invited suggestions from various NGOs and organisations which can be included in the business plan and requested for proposal (RDP) documents which has been uploaded on the websites of Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
“The basic aim is to streamline the service and find new revenue sources to strengthen the transport system. Along with improving the financial condition of PMPML, the other aspects such as increasing number of buses with projection of increasing population, hiring of private buses, preparing a timetable with a forecast of development of the areas will be included in the business plan of the transport body,” said Ashtikar.
Jugal Rathi, president of PMP Pravasi Manch, said, “It is a necessity for transport body to have a vision. The PMPML should have done the plan much earlier. They should have a scientific approach in preparing the plan.”
