Pimpri Chinchwad Science Center may be the next science innovation hub

Pune: Creativity and innovation in science has got a new lease of life as the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM) has called for a detailed project report (DPR) from Pimpri Chinchwad Science Centre (PCSC), for an innovation hub proposed at the science centre in twin town area. It will be one of its kind innovation hub in Pune region under the ‘scheme for promoting innovation, creativity and engagement in sciences’ (SPICES) programme started by NCSM, Ministry of Culture, Government of India.

The innovation hub at PCSC will be one of the 60 such hubs coming across India. A new facility, these innovation hubs are aimed at seeking new ways to bring innovative science teaching and experience to students and fostering creative faculty that will emphasize on inquiry based learning.
S Kumar, Director (Hqrs), NSCM said,

“We have asked the Science Centre in Pimpri Chinchwad to send their DPR and once we approve it, the work for the proposed innovation hub will be completed in over 18 months.” He said that NCSM is already running 5 innovation hubs, including one at Nehru Science Centre in Mumbai and the plan is to add 60 more such hubs across India.


These NSCM innovation hubs will have multimedia kiosks, innovation resource centre (of books and e-journals), innovation laboratory, tech lab for robotics and microprocessor programming, sections on Tod Fod Jod (TFJ) and other investigative experiment sections. There will also be lab with facility for experimentation in Physics, Chemistry, Electronics, Biology, Robotics, etc.
Chief Executive Officer at PCSC, MM Savale said that the preparation of the DPR is in process and will be ready within next three weeks. He said that the hub will be not only serve as a platform for school students but also for innovators who have no institutional support, but are working on innovative ideas.
The objective of NSCM is to promote creativity and inspire innovations.
