The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) deserves a pat on its back for its water supply, going by the survey of service level benchmarks (SLB) carried out recently.

The SLBs are performance indicators and reflect the multiple facets of service delivery performance. The PCMC carried out the survey to implement systematic water distribution system. The civic body conducted the survey with the help of World Bank and Central government. It was the first survey of its kind conducted by the World Bank in India, claimed civic officials.

To arrive at the SLB, nearly 5,200 water samples from users were tested in the twin township. Every three months, a follow-up will be carried out from these users, said PCMC executive engineer of water supply department Praveen Ladkat. This will help in implementing equitable water distribution and connecting all households to the civic drainage network in the municipal limits, added the civic official.

The population of Pimpri-Chinchwad is increasing rapidly due to migration and population growth is estimated at nearly 75% as per the 2011 Census. The SLB project will help in bridging the gap between the increase in population and the developed infrastructure and in water recycling.

Forty-seven zones in Pimpri-Chinchwad were drawn up to ensure equitable distribution of water supply and check leakages. The PCMC initiated a house-to-house survey on water supply and drainage network to get feedback about the problems citizens face. The civic body had prepared a questionnaire to receive feedback from citizens.
