The Women and Child Welfare committee of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will provide training in 12 different vocational courses for generating self-employment.
The short term training courses for a period of 30 to 60 days include spoken English, gift article making, play group teacher’s training, video shooting, mobile repairing, paper convergence etc.
The candidates can join the courses for free or at minimal charges, while PCMC will pay Rs 3000 to Rs 4500 for each of them.
The proposal was tabled by the Women and Child Welfare committee at the standing committee meeting for the approval, about a few months ago. The proposal was held over as it did not specify about educational qualification of the women who wanted to attend the PCMC sponsored programme.
Shivsena corporator and standing committee member Asha Shendge had objected to the proposal asking why the contract was being awarded to a particular institute instead of putting up competitive tenders. She also questioned about the educational qualification of the candidates.
Meanwhile, Women and Child Welfare committee members threatened to resign as their proposal was held over. Some members had approached to deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar, following which the proposal was approved on Tuesday. Standing committee chairman Navnath Jagtap said, “The proposal has already been held over for more than a month. Meanwhile, the women folks in the wards are inquiring about the training programme but we are unable to provide them answers.
