PCMC launches new schemes for women

The woman and child welfare committee of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) launched new schemes for women empowerment including DTP and Tally software training.

The course will be offered at Rs1,000 per month for women caretakers of AIDS affected children. PCMC mayor Mohini Lande reviewed the woman child welfare schemes of civic body recently and assistant commissioner Satish Kulkarni presented the new schemes. The members of the committee hiked the amount given to girls for pursuing MBBS from Rs7,500 to Rs14,000 for MBBS degree.

The woman and child welfare committee also proposed to give the amount to the girls who pursue BAHS, BDS, BAMS or engineering degree to encourage post graduate studies in medical and engineering. PCMC commissioner Dr Shrikar Pardeshi also asked the committee to provide funds to small help groups which have completed three years. Earlier, the condition to seek funds for SHGs was one year.

PCMC runs 24 schemes for the benefit of women and children residing in the municipal limits. These include free distribution of sewing machines to women, scholarships to girl students, distribution of free cycles to girls, financial assistance to the women self help groups, and financial assistance to girls for higher education.

PCMC has a provision of almost Rs21.75 crore in its annual budget for the women and child welfare department. The applicants found eligible for the new schemes will be given the benefits from this year’s budgetary provision.
