Principal Deepali Girhe (37), who was allegedly manhandled by Suresh Pathare, former personal assistant of anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare, told dna that Pathare and his men had come in three groups, threatened her and her parents at gunpoint before beating them up on Wednesday. Dismissing the allegations, Pathare had claimed that Girhe was defaming him for publicity.

Meanwhile, parents of students who study in the CBSE-board affiliated school are so scared, claimed Girhe, that they wanted to withdraw their children mid-semester. “They do not want their children to come to our school due to lack of security. This incident has hampered their semester examinations too,” said Girhe.

Girhe is the principal and trustee of Kausai International Academy at Hanga village in Parner taluka, which is 120 km from Pune. Girhe, who has received fracture in her left hand, stitches on her leg and multiple injuries, has been admitted to a private hospital in Ahmednagar.

Girhe and her parents have been running Sai Samrat Educational Association. One year ago, Girhe and eight other members started the school affiliated to Central Board Secondary Education (CBSE) board.

Deepali’s husband Ashwin, who is also the secretary of the trust, said, “The school premises is owned by Deepali’s parents while trust’s president is Kalpana Pathare, a relative of Suresh Pathare. Since June, three trustees started having issues with us. On this Kalpana demanded our resignation. She also approached an Ahmednagar-based Charitable trust with a letter written on our school’s letter head, other documents and asked for change in our trust name. We filed an objection suit before the Trust Commission on June 20. After three hearings, they were rapped by commissioner and hence on October 17, they decided to take revenge.

Humiliating ordeal

Deepali recalls, “We were in school for the semester examinations when Kalpana along with Nilesh Lanke, the Shiv Sena’s Parner unit head and Suresh forcefully entered our office. They had brought iron rods, bamboo and pointing a gun at us, threatened my staff and me. We called up Supe police station, but they did not answer our calls. Suresh was first to hit me on stomach with an iron rod and when my parents came to defend me they started beating all of us.”

They came in three groups and after one group was tired, another took over while the first retired to a room and consumed liquor, Deepali alleged.

“This continued till 7.30 pm. They humiliated us by throwing car keys on the ground and asking us to crawl and get it. Later a person called Ganesh took me and my husband to an isolated spot and pointed pistol at us threatening to kill. Ganesh spoke to Suresh who told him to restrain us till they had filed a case of molestation and assault against us at a police station. We went to sub-divisional police officer, but he made us wait for an hour befire taking cognizance of our complaint,” Deepali said.
