Various development works in Pune Cantonment limits including that of Ghorpadi Railway Overbridge can now be carried out under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM). Earlier, the JNNURM funds were earmarked only for the works within the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) limits.
NCP city unit president and Rajya Sabha MP Vandana Chavan on Friday said that the funds which PMC receives under the JNNURM can also be used for development works in Khadki and Pune Cantonment areas. She said that after getting clearance from the Union Government, both the Cantonment boards have been asked to prepare detailed plans for utilising the funds.
A delegation headed by Chavan met CEO of Pune Cantonment Board V Nagireddy and CEO of Khadki Cantonment Board J S Chavan on Friday. City mayor Chanchala Kodre, MLCs Jaidev Gaikwad, Anil Bhosale, standing committee chairman Vishal Tambe, PMC corporator Santosh Kavde and Vandana Balgude were part of the delegation.
Chavan said that after both the boards give their detailed development plans, it would be included in the next DP of the PMC and funds could be availed for development of Cantonment areas.
The flyover at Golibar Maidan, pedestrian bridge, subway at Solapur Bazaar, changing of old pipelines and Ghorpadi Railway Overbridge are some of the works to be carried out in the Cantonment areas.
Chavan visited both the Cantonment areas in view of the District Planning and Development Committee (DPDC) meeting to be held on Monday.
