Now, Hinjewadi hotels face music

Pune: Continuing action against hotels that run late till night, a special team of Pune police, headed by assistant commissioner of police Smita Patil of Chatuhshrungi division, raided four hotels in Hinjewadi area on Saturday night and arrested hotel owners for allegedly selling illicit liquor.

The arrested have been identified as Raminder Singh alias Goldie Surender Singh Narang (37), owner of hotel Eternia and a resident of Rastha Peth, Deepak Pratap Kalate (33), a Wakad resident and owner of hotel Ranjawi, Gurupreetsingh Indersingh Uppal alias Lovely (40), resident of Wanowrie and owner of hotel Royal Exoctica, Abhishek Shankar Kanate, Umesh Shantaram Raut, Abhimanyu Ram Naik, Mahesh Dambhar Bahadur, Rupesh Rampravesh Sahu, Gyamlal Dalender, Praful Krushnachand Naik.

According to ACP Patil, “Hinjewadi being the IT hub, hotel-owners run their business late till night. We received a tip off about illicit liquor being sold in some hotels of the area. Acting on a tip off, we raided four hotels and seized illicit liquor worth Rs65,000. During the raid, we found a hotel staffer from Nepal with Indian Pan Card. There are many such persons from neighbouring countries, who possess documents that are given only to Indian citizens.” 

The operation was so secretive that the Chatuhshrungi police did not even inform Hinjewadi police about the raid. This is not the first time that the Pune police have taken action against hotels. Earlier, hotels from Koregaon Park, Vimannagar and Kondhwa had been raided for operating late and carrying out business without authorised documents.
