Accusing deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar of mismanaging the Ujjaini dam water during his tenure as water resources minister, Janhit Shetkari Sanghatana leader Prabhakar Deshmukh on Saturday announced that he will be arranging a wedding ceremony of donkeys at Azad Maidan in Mumbai on June 5.

While addressing a one-day conference on eradication of drought organised by Lok Bharati, Deshmukh said, “In rural parts of Maharashtra, there is a tradition of arranging wedding of donkeys as a last resort to pray to the rain Goddess. Since the government has proved to be useless, we are depending on donkeys now.” The wedding card published by Deshmukh makes fun of various leaders on the issue of water scarcity.

The conference was organised by Lok Bharati president Kapil Patil and was attended by environmentalist Madhav Gadgil and others.

Continuing his 117-day agitation demanding water for Solapur from Ujjaini dam canals, Deshmukh said that he will be inviting all politicians and activists for the wedding on June 5 at 11.35 am.

“Ujjaini dam had 114 per cent water in 2012 and now it is facing water crunch.” he said.

No entry for Pawars in Solapur
Deshmukh said that the farmers and warkaris in Solapur will not allow Ajit Pawar to enter Solapur district and would not allow him to perform pooja at Pandharpur during the Kartiki Ekadashi.

“Pawar has abused the feelings of the Solapur people by saying that whether he should pee into the dam if there was no water in it? Union minister Sharad Pawar has also betrayed Solapur MLAs by refusing to provide water before May,” he said. He added that Pawar was more concerned about water to Dynamix and other industries in Baramati than water for Solapur.
