Some rain showers on Monday brought some relief for Puneites from sweaty day, but there is still no respite for Puneites from constant power cuts. It has been nearly a week that the Puneites are facing power cuts and increasing humidity was adding to the inconvenience to the citizens.

The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) officials have claimed that there is no more load Shedding taking place in and around Pune and stated that the power cuts might be taking place due to the local problems.

However, the areas of the city including Kothrud, Aundh, Baner, NIBM road, Hadapsar, Swargate are facing constant power cuts through out the day. In fact in NIBM road and Swargate area, there was no electricity for the most part of night on Sunday.

Jamir Khan, a resident of NIBM road said, " It was a sweaty day as humidity level in Pune has increased. However, there was no electricity in the area for almost entire night due to which all the family members could not sleep for entire night."

When MSEDCL officials were contacted, they said, " A feeder in the Swargate area was tripped due to which there was power cuts taking place. The feeder was repaired on Monday and the power has been restored now."

This is not the only area that is facing the power cuts. Even the parts of Pimpri Chinchwad, Kothrud, Baner, Aundh and even peth areas have been facing the power crisis.

The MSEDCL officials stated that after some substations in the state failed, there was a load on remaining substations as a result of which parts of the city were facing load shedding. " Earlier the load shedding used to be nearly three to four hours, but now the power generation has increased as a result of which the load shedding has come down to 15 to 20 mins. As the power was being restored, some 11 electricity towers of Mahagenco collapsed, due to which the load shedding increased in the city."

" The collapsed towers are being reinstalled and the load shedding has been reduced in parts of the city. The power will be restored in next couple of days," MSEDCL officials said.

Citizen reaction
Mohit Sharma, a software techie working in Hinjewadi said, " As the summer season is over, the power cuts in the city should be reduced, but on the contrary they are increasing. It becomes difficult to stay at home when there is no power supply and humidity is increasing."

Saurabh Awati, working professional in private company said, " There were constant power cuts taking place in the last week so we could not work in the office as there is no generator in the office. The MSEDCL should declare it in advance when there will be no power so that we can avoid those timings."

Sandeep Kulkarni, a Narhe Ambegaon resident said, " After witnessing constant power cuts from last few days now, I am getting a sense that there will all the more problem once rain starts in Pune."

In case of power failure in the area, citizens can contact MSEDCL helpline number on 18002003435 or 18002333435
