In a bid to curb traffic snarls in Rajiv Gandhi IT Park in Hinjewadi, the traffic police has planned to impose no parking curbs on all major internal roads of the area.

The Hinjewadi traffic police has banned parking on three different road stretches in the area.

The first stretch is from Shivaji Chowk to Wipro Circle in Phase 1, second is from Wipro Circle to Geometric Circle and the third is from Infosys Circle to Emerson Company.
The Hinjewadi traffic police department has started enforcing the curbs on experimental basis while the deadline to file suggestions and objections is May 25.

Assistant police inspector Vimal Bidave from Hinjewadi traffic police division said, “These roads get clogged during the peak hours. Everyday more than 3 lakh vehicles pass through the area while the total road width is only 15 metres. Moreover, part of the carriageway is eaten up by parked vehicle which thus cause snarls.”

Bidaver, “The no parking curbs will ease flow of traffic in the area. Most of the parked vehicles are either cabs or vehicles of IT company employees. Now, we are trying to educate them about the curbs.”

The road from Shivaji Junction to Wakad is still under construction and once the work is over, the traffic police will impose no parking curbs on that stretch too.

However, the new traffic plan has not gone down well with the techies who feel that it is unfair to convert all major roads into no parking zone as often they have to go to the main road to buy medicines, snacks, cigarettes etc. All the offices are far away from the main market and therefore they say they need to stop on the main road.

Sunita Nalawade (33), who is working with Wipro, said, “I generally do not get time to purchase anything in the area where I work and I buy snacks and other essentials on my way to office. Now it will be impossible to do so.”

Dheeraj Singhania (28), who works with Tech Mahindra, said, “I buy cigarettes from the shops along the main road as the shops near my office sell the same at higher rate.

Vehicular parking should be allowed during the lean hours in the afternoon.”

The no-parking zones
Shivaji Junction to Wipro Circle phase: 1 :1 km.

Wipro Circle to Geometric Circle: 1 km.

Infosys Circle to Emerson Company: 700 metre.
