Giving in to pressure exerted by citizens on the decision to make the right hand side of Fergusson College Road into a no-parking zone, the Pune city traffic police department that had invited objections and suggestions from citizens, has decided to extend the last date for the same to September 17.

On August 13, the Pune city traffic police department had announced the decision to make the 600-metre stretch on the right side (as you come from Deccan Gymkhana facing in the same direction as the flow of traffic) from Good Luck junction to Step In restaurant on FC Road into a no-parking zone.

This area is used for parking more than 650 two-wheelers, say local shopkeepers who complained that business would be severely hit by the decision.

Even residents of nearby lanes off FC Road are opposing the decision since the traffic and parking would then be diverted into their lanes causing inconvenience.

Owing to this pressure, the Pune city traffic department has decided that they need to first make alternative arrangements for parking. Also they have decided to take stock of traffic flow in the area.

Deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Vishwas Pandhare said, “The reason why we have extended the date of inviting objections and suggestions is because we need to make alternative arrangements for two-wheeler parking.”

Pandhare added, “Due to the terror threat in the area we have taken the decision to make the area a no-parking zone so that any untoward incident can be averted. This will also help curb the traffic congestion in the area. Moreover, pedestrians will get proper place to walk.”
