Pune: The sources within Congress party revealed that it was not because of TINA (There is No Alternative) factor but because of the fact that none of the veteran Congress leaders are willing to accept the responsibility of this post that there is no change of guards in the state for the upcoming assembly elections.

Eversince, CM Prithviraj Chavan has been sent from Delhi to lead the democratic front Government in the state. It was during the first week of the June that media reports started speculating the ouster of Chavan. It was after a meeting between NCP President Sharad Pawar, senior Congress leaders A K Antony and Ahmed Patel that the speculations started about his ouster.
Former Union Home Minister and former Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde was abroad and came back in the third week of June. Sources within the party have revealed that Shinde had declined the offer by the High Command even before leaving for abroad by questioning the propriety of changing the Chief Minister on the eve of assembly elections.
Sources reveal that the names of a few other senior leaders were also considered for the post but none of them showed willingness to accept the challenge. The close aides of a senior Minister when asked about the same refused to speak on record. On the condition of anonymity he said, “my leader was asked for the post and he was asked to come to Delhi soon after these reports. But he told us that he has declined the offer.” This senior minister has said that many leaders from the state have reported to the High Command that party should be ready for the similar drubbing during the ensuing assembly polls in the state. A minister has reportedly told his aides, “in the face of defeat, what is the point in becoming Chief Minister and who would come to us with money for fighting the elections when defeat is certain.”
