NGOs and corporates in Pune address issues related to environment, on World Environment Day

Pune: The environmental NGOs and corporate offices in the city are gearing up for celebrating World Environment Day by organizing various activities and programs for the awareness about environmental problems.

This year, NGOs are going beyond tree plantation initiatives and are shifting focus towards other causes for creating awareness, targeting people of all ages. The Centre for Environmental Education, will be conducting awareness programs in organizations like corporate offices and schools on how the rise in sea water level due to climate change can cause future problems for the existence of island countries, and how to maintain the water levels by controlling pollution. Promotion of public transport would be a major part of these programs.
Sustainability Initiatives, an NGO for environment planning, will conducting an awareness session, held by Dr.Pramod Patil, a reputed conservationist, about the Great Indian Bustard, along with BHOOMI, which works for biodiversity conservation. The Great Indian Bustard is a rare bird species which is heading towards extinction with only 200 birds left in India.
CybageAsha, the CSR arm of Cybage Software Pvt. Ltd., is giving out free saplings to the employees as part of its go-green initiative.
